AN ELEGANT SATURDAY NIGHT IN PECKHAM

It was good to attend a fundraising concert for Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers (SDCAS ) held at the Copleston Centre on the 25th September. Due to COVID the annual concert could not take place last year - it was great for audience and performers alike that things appear to be returning to normal.

We were promised an evening of 'elegant' music and it lived up to it's billing ! All the music was provided by local performers: The Light Orchestra String Quartet;the Carlton Folk Duo;Shem Jarrold and the Copleston Road Trio.

It was good that the Mayor of Southwark Barrie Hargrove attended. He has chosen SDCAS as his 'Charity of the Year'. He spoke warmly of the great efforts of both staff and volunteers in supporting some of the most vulnerable and marginalised members of our society. He reminded us that fundraisers for SDCAS will be taking part in the forthcoming London marathon ( October 3rd).

A big thank you to Frances Barrett who put the programme together. She runs the Music Appreciation group which meets at the Centre on a Friday afternoon.

For more information about SDCAS and how to support their wonderful work they can be contacted on Facebook Southwark Day Centre for Asylum Seekers.
